The Social Justice Book Fair for Collective Liberation

December 12th from 1-6 at Trinity Church, Asbury Park

The Light Brigade Collective, in partnership with the Asbury Book Cooperative and Trinity Church, is thrilled to host the Social Justice Book Fair for Collective Liberation. In this day and age of fake news, well researched intersectional social justice-minded books are needed more than ever. The fair will feature many independent publishers, book sellers, writers, and zines with radical and progressive ideologies from around the region—New York City, New Jersey, and Philadelphia. Those setting up tables include Asbury Book Cooperative, Bluestockings Cooperative, PM Press, AK Press, Haymarket Books, AK Hanrahan, Museum of Genre Fiction, Hidden Gems Literary Emporium, and Cats Luck Vegan.

Local social justice initiatives such as Project REAL, Jersey Shore Food Not Bombs, and the Transformative Justice Project will be on site sharing information and ways to get involved. As the holiday season approaches, we are hoping to platform smaller operations such as the folks we have featured. These people are not only putting out great content and doing great work, but greatly benefit from support as opposed to much larger platforms many use to order books, music, and more. Please don’t support Amazon this holiday season—keep your dollars local and keep your reading justice-oriented.

Speakers:

2pm Transformative Justice Project- Prison Abolition 101

3pm Author Adrian Shanker of Bodies and Barriers: Queer Activists on Health

4:30pm Queer Poetry by Local Poets

We hope you will join us December 12th from 1-6 at 503 Asbury Ave, Asbury Park. As always with any Light Brigade Collective event, we will be collecting donations of vegetarian non-perishable foods. Vaccinations suggested, masks required.
